NEWS- A senior three female student has been confirmed dead and 24 injured in a fatal accident.
Samson Kasasira, the rwiizi region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Costance katushabe aged 20 years and a S.3 student at Ntungu S.S.S a resident of Nyamuyanza sub county in isingiro district.
Kasasira also identified the injured as a 19 year old Emmanuel Kasingye in S.3, Godad Nuwahereza aged 20 years in form 4, Dickson Amanya aged 17 in form 2 , Godwin Taremwa 18 years in form 3, Boony Natuhwera 20 years form 4,
Bridget Kirabo Bridget 18 years in form 3, Daphine Nahamya Daphine aged 19 years in form 4, Patricia Namukasa Patricia 19 years in form 4, Agasha Alicious 18 years in form 3, Ngabiire shallon 20 years in form 5 and Tumwebaze Christine 18 years in form 3.
Other victims are Namara Rackeli 17 years in form 1, Ainomugisha Christina 17 years in form 4, Angel Allen aged 18 years in form 3, Ayebazibwe fortunate 19 years in form 4 , Ayikiriza Daphine 20 years in form 5, Tusiimeomuhangi Ustine 17y years in form 1 all students of Ntungu SS in Ntungu subcounty Isingiro district.
Staff victims include, Gilbert Ainembabazi a teacher, Tumwine Chrispus sports teacher, Muhirwe Daphas teacher, Kyalimpa Roset teacher, Gabaami Fred Deputy headteacher, Tumwesigye bright a cook and Asiimwe Boaz a cook.
The police PRO revealed that the accident happened on 15th June 2024 at Keinzibaate cell a long Kamubiizi Kikagati road at around 10:00am.
Kasasira stressed that the accident involved motor vehicle mitsubishi canter white in colour registration number UBA 708A
It’s alleged that on 15th June 2024 at about 8:00am the above said motor vehicle left Ntungu S.S.S with 33 students on board and 8 staffs totaling to 41 passengers going for zonal football and netball school competition at kyezimbire S.S.S in isingiro district.
Along the way at place called keinzibaate, the driver failed to negotiate a sharp bend, lost control and in the process he jumped out the motor vehicle leaving it motion for about 10 metres and it over turned leaving one female student dead and a total 24 victims injured.
Police operatives visited the scene led by ASP mujuni lauben OC Kikagati police station assisted by CPL muftindinda moses and 63115 PC matovu bonex.
Victims were rushed to Mbarara referral hospital and the deceased’s body conveyed to Mbarara referral hospital for post-mortem.
The motor vehicle was towed and parked at isingiro CPS pending inspection as effort to tress for the driver is in progress
A single fatal accident case was reported and recorded at Isingiro CPS vide TAR: 65/2024.
