NEWS- The police have in custody 8 suspects allegedly involved in counterfeit money operation.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala metropolitan police Deputy Public Relations officer noted that the suspects were arrested on 11th June 2024 following an operation by the Directorate of Crime Intelligence working with other security agencies at Elite Arcade on Nasser Road, shop A-08.
According to Owoyesigyire, the detained suspects were involved in the distribution, making and sale of counterfeit money.
He revealed the detained as the principal dealer, Mukasa Ronald whom he says was apprehended along with his accomplices identified as Mugumya Geey, Brian Abaho, Joel Kagame, Ogadi Ronald, Namuwaya Shadia, Segwayi Rodgers, and Abu Mayanja.
The police Deputy PRO also availed information showing that during the operation the security team recovered counterfeit money in various currencies including Ugandan shillings, South Sudanese Pounds, US Dollars, Euros, Rwandan Francs, United Kingdom Pounds , Kuwaiti Dinars, among others.
He additionally said that other materials used in the production of counterfeit money were seized, such as films, papers with images, chemicals, CPUs, monitors, digital printers, and suspected forged land titles and academic documents were also recovered.
ASP Owoyesigyire confirmed to our reporter that the suspects will be charged with dealing in counterfeits and will be subsequently arraigned in court once the investigations are concluded.
“The Police remains committed to combating counterfeit operations and ensuring the integrity of our financial system”, he added.
