Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon Sarah Itungu Masereka, has celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child with students of St Theresa Girls’ School Nsenyi Kasese, where she launched the Mountain Girl Menstrual Hygiene Kit 2026 and Beyond initiative.
The initiative aims to support girls across Kasese District who risk missing classes due to limited access to menstrual hygiene products.
During the event, Hon Itungu encouraged the girls to remain focused on their dreams and never allow themselves to be discouraged by the belief that students in better-resourced schools are more advantaged and urged them to compete confidently with their peers to achieve their ambitions.
She noted that Kasese District has produced many professionals, including pilots, lawyers and engineers, and encouraged the girls to believe in their abilities and work hard to achieve similar success.
Meanwhile, the project team from her office sensitized the students on menstrual hygiene management, highlighting the importance of maintaining proper hygiene during menstruation.
As part of the initiative, Hon Itungu donated menstrual hygiene packages to each girl and the packages contained soap, shaving razors, underwear and sanitary towels to help the students maintain proper menstrual hygiene and attend classes with confidence.
