KASESE- At least 30 Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) members from Muhokya Sub-county in Kasese district have defected to the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The defectors including the Sub-county Chairperson, Asanairi Mugusu and some of his Executive members denounced the party yesterday and were officially welcomed by the NUP’s Deputy President in-charge of the Western Region, Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba at the sub-county headquarters.

Mugusu said he decided to defect to NUP with some of his Executive members including Jonathan Kyasibanji, the Secretary for Works and Social Services, Augustine Muhindo, the Sub-county Council Speaker, Janet Musoki, the Deputy Speaker and Pascal Sibughenderwa, a representative of the PWDs after realizing that the FDC top leaders were allegedly cooperating with the ruling NRM party.

According to him, as people who are pro-change, they were left with no option apart from joining NUP.

Speaking in a jovial mood while welcoming the defectors, Tukamushaba emphasized that their party President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was determined to take over the leadership of Uganda in a peaceful manner.

She observed the need for unity and collective action towards advocating for change of government.

Alfred Sibanji, one of the defectors used the same platform to declare his interest for District Councillorship representing Muhokya Sub-county.

Meanwhile, FDC party in Kasese district has revealed that it has not been threatened by the defection of the Muhokya Sub-county Chairperson, Asanairi Mugusu who yesterday officially joined NUP.

Mugusu and 29 other people from the FDC were welcomed by the NUP’s Deputy President in-charge of the Western Region, Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba at the sub-county headquarters.

The District party Chairperson, Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku says much as Mr. Mugusu has been holding their flag, his defection has not become a loss to the party not only in the sub-county but also the entire district.

Addressing the press today afternoon at his King – Kom Heritage Gardens in Kidodo Cell, Kasese town, Kabuku explained that realizing that Mugusu had started playing double – standard politics, they limited him from attending their internal meetings on suspicion that he would spy for NUP.

He called upon the electorate in Muhokya to be watchful of the people he said do not allegedly have focus, adding that FDC as a party will unite in an attempt to reclaim the position currently held by Mugusu.
