Kigezi Region Police PRO ASP Elly Maate

The police in Rukungiri District have arrested a 42 yrs old man identified as Darius Nabasa the area chairperson of Omukibungo village Kanyamahwa Parish in Nykagyeme Sub-county ans still hunting for two others, allegedly for defacing campaign posters of Hon Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi Katugugu.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate has confirmed the arrest of Nabasa who allegedly committed the offense at Half London Trading Centre located at Omukibungo village,  Nyakagyeme Sub-county in Rukungiri District. 

This arrest comes after Minister Muhwezi NRM flag bearer for Rujumbura Constituency conducted a campaign rally  at Half London Trading Centre in Omukibungo village in Rushasha Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County in Rukungiri District, where his campaign posters were pinned around. 

It’s further alleged that, suspects under the instructions of Nabasa who is the the area chairperson, wanted candidate Muhwezi to first  seek permission from him  before  holding any rally  from his area ordered people to destroy all posters that  were near the home of one Aryayijuka Obed.

That is when it was reported to Rukungiri Police Station and investigations commenced and statements of relevant witnesses were recorded, the crime scene was visited and exhibits including damaged posters  were photographed and recovered as investigations continue.
