NEWS- Hundreds of people gathered on Saturday 14th to celebrate the life of late Ocoma, a local artist hailing from katakwi-Teso sub-region in the eastern part of the country.
John Robert Ochoma commonly known as ‘Eyeki Yeki’, a born of 1972, a resident of Obira village, Akoboi sub-county, Ngariam county in Katakwi District.
The chairperson of Ilogir clan Mr. Kenneth Obira said the deceased left five children and a widow (Jenifer Amuge).
Ekode added that, they always converge to celebrate 14th of September 2024 as one way of remembering the life of late Ochoma who succumbed to a motorcycle accident as he was going to continental radio in Kumi to deliver his songs for promotion.
Among the songs that he released are, Eyeyki-yeki, Opombe, Iitunenete Itunga, vitamin C, Arerengu and others.
The chief guest who is the state Minister for Education and sports (SPORTS), Hon. Peter Ogwang through His Representative Hon. Obukui Jorem wondered why some politicians use artists and fail to improve on their wellbeing, adding that the act should stop.
Ogwang urged musicians to desist from being used by individuals for personal gains. In his message, Ogwang praised Ochoma as a person with creative ideas that inspired many people in Teso to like his songs.
Obukui delivered a cash contribution of 2Million shillings to the family and urged media houses to continue having a spirit of promoting local artists so as to make them popular.

Cecilia Anyakoit, a candidate for the woman MP seat for Katakwi District contributed five hundred thousand shillings towards the thanks giving prayers and praised the late for being very instrumental in composing educative songs for the community and those of local leaders for campaigns.
Anyakoit who has for a short time tormented the incumbent MP Jessica Alupo, the V.P has pledged good leadership and service delivery to the occupants of Katakwi.
