RUKUNGIRI- Parents of a 10-year-old girl Miria Atukunda who was born disabled have a reason to smile after receiving a modern wheel chair for their child from Rukobarwomunda for Community Mobilization Development (RUCOMODE) a non-government organization owned and funded by the Rukungiri municipality legislator Hon Dr Elisa Rutahigwa.
Alex Tugabirwe and Speech Kyokunda, residents of Nyakihanga Village in Kyatoko Ward, Rukungiri Municipality, the parents of the disabled child upon receiving a wheelchair told our reporter that their child’s situation emanated from childhood stage and her condition deteriorated to the extent that she cannot sit properly nor walk or stand.
Due her physical disability and without a wheelchair, she has been unable to participate in daily life locomotion and attending school which left her family desperate and largely confined her indoors since they couldn’t afford to buy her a wheelchair.
Kyokunda speech, a mother to Miria said she is now relieved from carrying her daughter on the back and that she can now relocate from one place to another easily.

Matsiko Onesimus and, Hilder Naturinda among other residents of Nyakihanga village in Kyatoko ward narrated the hardships Kyokunda would go through, stressing that MP Rutahigwa’s donation is a relief.
Hon Rutahigwa explained that he chose to assist PWDs as a gesture of upholding their rights, recognizing that many cannot afford wheelchairs on their own.
Rutahigwa says that through his community-based organization, he aims to extend support to more PWDs in Rukungiri Municipality and evaluate patients as a medical specialist before extending aid based sickness.
