Mujuni Lawrence Mpitsi Pac Singa at Kyadondo being nominated

KAMPALA– On Monday morning, June 2, 2025, Lawrence Mujuni Mpitsi Pac Singa, the Member of Parliament hopeful for Rubabo County, officially picked up his nomination papers, expressing his intent to contest for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag as he eyes Parliament in the upcoming 2026 elections.

By around 10 AM, Mujuni Mpitsi was already at Kyadondo, where the NRM had set the stage for candidates interested in various political seats to collect their nomination papers. This moment was significant not only for Mpitsi but also for the party, as he has become a focal point amidst swirling rumors about his candidacy.

Concerns had been raised by some of his fellow contestants, suggesting that he might not receive the nomination due to various complaints. However, his presence at the nomination site and officially picking his nomination forms decisively dispelled these doubts.

After completing the nomination process, Mujuni Mpitsi spoke to this reporter, declaring that the journey to liberate Rubabo County had officially commenced. He emphasized his commitment to becoming the voice of his constituents, focusing on critical areas such as education, health, and infrastructure development.

“If we prioritize these sectors, Rubabo County will not only shine in the Kigezi region but will also stand out across Uganda,” he stated passionately.

As of now, Mujuni Mpitsi is the only candidate to have officially expressed interest in the NRM flag for the parliamentary seat, positioning him as a frontrunner in the race. His candidacy is crucial for both the party and the constituents who rely on strong leadership and advocacy for their needs.

The NRM, led by Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, has officially launched a countrywide exercise to identify its flag bearers for the forthcoming 2026 general elections. This initiative is crucial as it sets the stage for a competitive electoral season, with party structures expected to engage in intensified mobilization and internal campaigns.

Dr. Odoi unveiled a detailed electoral roadmap that includes Special Interest Group (SIG) village primaries, parliamentary races, local government positions, and national leadership roles. This comprehensive plan aims to ensure that the party is well-prepared for the electoral challenges ahead.

Significantly, Uganda’s Vice President, Rtd. Maj. Jesca Alupo, was scheduled to be the first aspirant to pick her nomination forms at 8:00 AM on the same day, showcasing the strong engagement from the party’s top leadership. This early start highlights the urgency and importance of the nomination process as the NRM gears up for the elections.

Dr. Odoi also announced the official nomination fees for various positions, which include UGX 3 million for Members of Parliament, UGX 1.5 million for Lord Mayor positions, and UGX 1 million for LC V Chairpersons.

These fees must be deposited into the NRM Electoral Commission’s Centenary Bank account (number 3100009003) prior to receiving nomination forms, underscoring the party’s commitment to transparent and organized electoral practices. Cash payments at party offices will not be accepted, ensuring a streamlined process for all candidates.

As the nomination process unfolds, it will be interesting to see how other candidates respond and whether anyone else will emerge to challenge Mujuni Lawrence Mpitsi Pac Singa for the NRM flag in Rubabo County. The party’s internal dynamics and the broader political landscape will play a significant role in shaping the upcoming elections.

Lawrence Mujuni Mpitsi’s nomination is a pivotal moment not only for him but also for the constituents of Rubabo County. With a focus on education, health, and infrastructure, his campaign promises to address pressing local issues and empower the community.

As the NRM prepares for a competitive electoral season, the outcome of this nomination and the subsequent elections will be closely watched by both supporters and skeptics alike. The journey to 2026 has officially begun, and it promises to be a remarkable chapter in Uganda’s political narrative.
