NEWS– The Police in Kanungu District have arrested a man suspected to have strangled to death his wife and child to death.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed that Turyahabwe Innocent was arrested after the strangled lifeless body of 18 year old Orishaba Proscovia a resident of Ibambiro village in Rwanga Ward in Kihihi Town Council and her 5 months old baby identified as Arinda Pretty were on Wednesday morning found lying on the roadside in Chozi village, Kihembe Sub County county.
Maate told journalists that the late Orishaba left her home together with the child on Tuesday but did not return home until on Wednesday morning when her body and that of her daughter were found lying near Ntabagwe Primary School by the Area village Chairman Sunday Christopher who reported the matter to the Police at Kanyantorogo.
Maate explained that at first, the bodies of the two victims were not identified by the locals, but upon being conveyed to Kihihi Health Centre IV, a relative to Proscovia was able to identify the two victims and the motive behind the killing has not been established.
Maate said that the crime scene was visited by the Police who documented, recorded statements and collected samples from the scene, did a postmortem examination and handed over bodies to the relatives for burial as investigations continue.
The case of murder was registered at Kanungu District Police Station under reference number CRB 131/2024 to help in investigations.
