NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri District are investigating instances that led to a nasty fatal crash that claimed lives of two people on Saturday 25th January 2025.
ASP Elly Maate told the press that the accident occurred at around 2:55Pm at Kiborogota Cell, Kebisoni Town Council along Rukungiri-Ntungamo Road in Rukungiri District.
Maate said the incident involved motorvehicle registration number UBR 066L, Fuso Fighter driven by unknown (driver still at large) and motorcycle registration number UGD 451R Bajaj boxer.
The Police spokesman identified the deceased persons as Ngabirano Onesmus 24, the motorcycle rider, resident of Karuhembe cell, Kebisoni Sub County and Muhirwe Derrick 28, a passenger resident of Muhanga cell, Kebisoni Town council all in Rukungiri District.
According to Police, it’s alleged that on the fateful day at around 2:55Pm, the driver (unidentified) of Motor vehicle UBR 066L Fuso Fighter while from the direction of Kebisoni heading to Rukungiri town, he tried to dodge a depression along his vehicular lane. That in the process, he collided head on with the rider of motorcycle UGD 451R Bajaj Boxer carrying a male adult passenger which was coming from Rukungiri side headed towards Kebisoni.
Maate adds that the suspected point of impact happens to be in the lane of the rider. After collision, the rider died on spot while the passenger was rushed to Nyakibale hospital for medical attention- where he was pronounced dead.
Police team from CPS Rukungiri visited the scene, examined and documented by a team of traffic officers led by DTO, Both vehicle and motorcycle towed and parked at Rukungiri CPS pending IOV inspection as relevant statements were recorded.
Maate added that the two bodies of the rider and his passenger were taken to Rwakabengo health centre III Mortuary where Postmortem was conducted.
The Driver of the Fuso Fighter is still at large as Police efforts are currently on to have him arrested and brought to book.
