KAMPALA- The Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement party Hon Richard Todwong has announced that the party is going to challenge the outcome of the Kawempe North by-election results that declared National Unity Platform candidate Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi as winner, defeating his closest rival, NRM’s Faridah Nambi Kigongo.

Hon Todwong said that the party’s Central Executive Committee held a meeting and acknowledged a number of misdeeds during the by-election and they are not satisfied with its outcome and have already directed the legal team to challenge the results in courts of law.

He explained that the Central Executives Committee meeting that sat yesterday heard that there was disenfranchising of several voters in Kawempe North when the Electoral Commission rejected results from a number of polling stations.

Hon Todwong said that they are basing their case on the cancellation of results from over 50 polling stations that disenfranchised over 50,00 voters to exercise their right to vote and there were also acts of violence carried out by supporters and sympathizers of National Unit Platform.

He noted that this election was marred with violence, cheating and ballot stuffing that need to be investigated and have asked for a forensic audit into the Kawempe North by-election to bring to light all the misdeeds during the poll.
