Ntungamo RDC Miriam Kagaiga

Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner Miriam Kagaiga Mugisha has commended the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for fulfilling its campaign pledges on road infrastructure under the slogan Protecting the Gains.

Kagaiga made the remarks today while launching three road maintenance projects worth UGX 224, 497, 728 M under the Road Maintenance Grant for the first quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year in Ntungamo Municipality.

The launch, which had initially been scheduled for yesterday, was postponed to today.

She urged political leaders to avoid political bickering and instead focus on lobbying for development projects in their respective communities.

Kagaiga also called upon the public to cooperate with contractors and other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the road works.

The roads earmarked for maintenance include Bamutarara Road, covering 2.5 kilometres at a cost of 83.9m Kigandire–Korora Road, covering one kilometre at a cost of 54.4m and Bampata–Matooba Road, covering 2.1 kilometres at a cost of 86.1m.

The three projects bring the total expenditure under the first-quarter Road Maintenance Grant to 224.5M shillings.

The Ntungamo Municipality Mayor Jacob Kafureeka applauded the general public for embracing infrastructure development aimed at improving the welfare of their communities.

The Town Clerk’s representative, Ainomugisha Coleta, urged residents to willingly offer land where necessary to facilitate the road works, noting that the communities themselves stand to benefit from the improved infrastructure.

The Assistant District Internal Security Officer, Abel Atukwatse, advised civil servants, particularly engineers, to consistently engage beneficiaries, local leaders and the media to promote transparency and public accountability.

Atukwatse cautioned against launching public projects without adequately involving the relevant stakeholders.
