NWSC equipment vandalized in Rukiga District

NEWS- The territorial police in Rukiga are investigating circumstances under which National Water and Sewage Cooperation pipes were vandalized and stolen by unknown.

This incident according to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesman was in the night of 4April 2025 at an unknown time, at Nyakitabire Cell, Muhanga Ward /Town Council Rukiga district.

It’s alleged that on the fateful night, unknown people invaded the main water reservoir tank and damaged the pumping line of water to main tank as well as damaging the distribution line of water supplying Kamwezi areas. The vandals also took off with 35 galvanized metallic pipes of 3 inches, 19.4 feet and Diameter of 90mm.

The police were on the following morning informed by the commercial officer NWSC Jonan Musinguzi, a case file of Malicious Damage to Property and Theft was opened and investigation initiated.

The scene of crime was visited and statements recorded from witnesses according to Maate.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that there was no Water in the reservoir tank, of which suspects used a handle axle blade to cut the pipes which was recovered at the scene and some pipes were also left at the scene. They were accordingly recovered.

Maate told the press that unfortunately, the scene was already tampered with and contaminated by neighbors and it had rained heavily hence limiting the chances of introducing the police canine at the scene.

“Investigations are ongoing with the view of identifying and arresting the suspects” added Maate.
