Your Excellency, welcome to the Kigezi Sub Region—a land of gentle, hospitable, educated, and hardworking people across the six districts of Kabale, Rukungiri, Kisoro, Kanungu, Rubanda, and Rukiga.
As I write, it’s evident that, across the 50 districts where the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate and Party Chairman, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has campaigned, a significant shift is occurring. More Ugandans are awakening to the NRM’s campaign manifesto, embracing the theme of ProtectingTheGains as we strive toward achieving high middle-income status.
Reasons to Continue Supporting H.E. Y.K. Museveni
1. Education Initiatives:
Kigezi has made tremendous strides in education, with every Sub County now benefiting from a government secondary seed school. Notably, the establishment of the *Presidential Skilling Hub* equips our youth with essential skills, fostering job creation amidst a growing population.
Government-aided primary schools are present in over 90% of parishes, although some leaders need to become more proactive in their roles.
2. Infrastructure Development:
Significant progress in infrastructure is evident with tarmacked roads connecting Ntungamo, Kabale, Rubanda, Kisoro, and Rukungiri. While further improvements in tourism-related roads are necessary, these developments have already added enormous value.
3. Health Care Improvements:
Health services are on the rise; many health center IIs are being upgraded to health center IIIs, and some health center IIIs to IVs. The region benefits from various facilities, including the Kabale Referral Hospital and several private health institutions, enhancing access to universal health care.
4. Enhanced Security and Peace:
Kigezi enjoys greater security than in previous years, boosting trade, especially with neighboring Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. While petty crimes persist, addressing the root causes—poverty and local theft—will further stabilize our communities.
5. Economic Empowerment:
The Parish Development Model (PDM) has invigorated our local economies, yet we must ensure that funds are distributed and utilized effectively to minimize misuse. Many in the region commend the NRM for these initiatives and call for increased funding to continue these successes.
Looking Ahead
With the next term, I urge the NRM Government to prioritize tackling corruption in local governance and to enhance important services including more infrastructure upgrades, health services, clean water access, and electricity.
As we head to the polls, Kigezi is poised to demonstrate robust support for President Museveni, reflecting our recognition of the progress made. However, we must also confront voter apathy to ensure that our voices are heard.
