The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 47 yearr old man identified as Jackson Orishaba a resident of Kyikondeka village in Bushura Parish in Kirima Sub county Kanungu district.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and said that the deceased ia suspected to have stolen a cow in Rwengona village also in Bushura Parish in Kirima Sub-county in Kanungu district.
Maate explained that it’s alleged that, the deceased has been away from home, staying in Bwindi doing his own business and on the 3rd April 2026, he opted to go back home and have the Easter holiday with the mother in Kyikondeka.
It’s further alleged that, on his way home, he branched to a bar to booze, and he opted to leave but on his way, he allegedly stole a cow, that’s when he was badly beaten by the mob leaving him in critical condition.
Maate explained that on the following day, the daughter Ronnah Nasasira took him to Katate Medical Center, from where he was referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and further referred to Mbarara Regional Referral hospital, from where he died yesterday.
The body was taken back home and Nasasira reported the matter to Kanungu Police Station who Kyikondeka village, retrieved the body and took it to Katate Health Center IV Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue and no arrests have been made.
