NEWS– The chief magistrate’s court in Kyenjojo has sentenced a police officer to 4 years in jail after convicting him of stealing government drugs.
AIP Kule Yusuf Katuramu was arrested in September last year together with 6 others during an operation against government drug thefts led by the National Drug Authority.
They were charged with stealing government drugs including ARVs, antimalarials among others and selling the drugs in the neighboring Democratic republic of Congo.
The other 6 pleaded guilty and were sentenced to jail terms ranging between 3 – 6 years.
Passing sentence against Kule at Kyenjojo chief magistrate’s court, magistrate Gloria Aciba Nimungu said that the 11 months Kule has spent on remand should be counted as part of his sentence.
Abiaz Rwamwiri -the pro National Drug Authority welcomed the sentence saying it will deter other people with similar intentions.
