KAMPALA– The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja has attributed the delayed relocation of residents residing in flood prone areas in Ntoroko district on the struggle by Government to find land that they can buy to facilitate their resettlement.
She made the remarks during the Thursday plenary sitting where she was responding to questions raised by Ntoroko county mp Ibanda Rwemulikya and Youth mp western region Edson Rugumayo who sought clarification on Government interventions to save lives and property of residents in Ntoroko districts, whose homes, schools and businesses were submerged following the bursting of the River Semliki banks, that led to flooding.
Rwemulikya said that the entire three sub-counties are submerged, yet government promised to buy land and relocate people in Kanaala Sub-County.
His sentiments were shared by Rugumayo who noted that Ntoroko district recently experienced devastating floods when River Semliki burst its banks causing floods in three sub-counties, and this worsened the already deplorable situation the residents were living in because already, 90% already submerged Kanaala Sub-county.
Nabbanja asked Rugumayo to furnish the Office of Prime Minister with a report from Ntroko district Disaster Committee to enable her office assess the situation, in order to determine the kind of intervention that is needed.
