President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a formal statement on the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, condemning the use of force and urging all parties involved to return to the path of principled diplomacy.

The President made the remarks today, in response to a an inquiry from the Iranian Ambassador to Uganda about the county’s position on the escalating tensions, particularly given Uganda’s current leadership of the Non-Aligned Movement, a bloc of 120 countries that seek to remain neutral in major power conflicts.

President Museveni emphasized that while the right to self-defense is legitimate, the use of military force for aggression especially by foreign powers only escalates conflict and invites retaliation.

The President further urged Iran and the Islamists to  heed to his long-standing advice while calling on Israel to implement the two states solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

As Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement since January 2024, Uganda has advocated for dialogue, mutual recognition, and peaceful conflict resolution and President Museveni’s statement reinforces NAM’s principles of non-aggression and respect for sovereignty.
