ACCRA- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for maximum cooperation among the African people if the continent is to unlock its full potential.
The President said, that it was on the account of African unity and solidarity, that Africans were able to wrestle their independence from colonialists and emphasized that, the end goals of unity are prosperity, strategic security and fraternity.
“Unless we use the opportunity of independence to make bold steps towards strengthening African unity, our continent will continue to suffer from the challenges of unemployment, poverty, insecurity and marginalization,” President Museveni warned.
President Museveni remarks were contained in a congratulatory message conveyed by Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel at the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana President John Dramani Mahama, at the Black Star Square in Accra in Ghana.
President Museveni further noted that our wealth creators, such as the commercial farmers, manufacturers, and service providers need a big market in order for their enterprises to succeed and called upon Africans to harness the big market of 1.3 billion people and said that through unity, the survival of Africans and their security is also guaranteed on a bigger scale.
“The law of nature has always dictated that those who are weak are enslaved. A People cannot survive by the charity of others, as if they are pets such as dogs, cats, etc. therefore we must guarantee our own security,” He said.
The President conveyed Uganda’s best wishes and goodwill to President John Dramani Mahama and all the people of Ghana adding that together they can create a more prosperous and secure Africa.
President Museveni congratulated Dramani upon his successful election and inauguration as President of Ghana.
“I congratulate you and the National Democratic congress for obtaining the mandate to lead the great people of Ghana,” President Museveni said in the congratulatory massage
He also thanked former President Nana Akufo-Addo, for leading Ghana, over the last eight years and noted that during his tenure, Uganda has enjoyed good bilateral relations with Ghana.
