
KABALE– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has applauded the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, for his outstanding leadership of the Catholic Church in the Kigezi region.
The President particularly recognized the Church’s pivotal role in promoting both spiritual and economic development alongside government initiatives.
The President’s message was on Sunday May 18th 2025 delivered by the Vice President Major Jessica Alupo, during celebrations to mark the Priestly Golden Jubilee of Bishop Rubaramira at a colorful event that was held at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality.
President Museveni congratulated Bishop Rubaramira on his 50-year milestone in priestly service, describing him as a faithful servant of God and a disciplined, effective leader and commended the Bishop for maintaining a high standard of administration and for his unwavering dedication to serving the people of Kabale and Kigezi at large.
President Museveni also highlighted Bishop Rubaramira’s strong collaboration with the government over the years, particularly in promoting peacebuilding, education, health and economic empowerment and noted that such partnerships have significantly contributed to the social and economic transformation of communities in the region.
The President further praised the Diocese of Kabale under Bishop Rubaramira’s leadership for supporting government efforts to improve access to basic social services and emphasized that while the Church and government play vital roles, it is ultimately the responsibility of every Ugandan to fight poverty and contribute toward achieving upper-middle-income status, characterized by widespread employment and improved welfare for all and also encouraged citizens to embrace hard work and offer quality services to their communities.
The Vice President Major Jessica Alupo congratulated Bishop Rubaramira for his dedicated and impactful service, which she said has touched the lives of many people across the region.
In his remarks, Bishop Rubaramira emphasized that achieving economic transformation requires commitment and hard work and expressed gratitude to God for the strength and guidance that has enabled him to fulfill his duties over the past five decades and also urged parents to instill a strong work ethic in their children as a critical step in eradicating household poverty.
The event was attended by the Minister of Security Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, Minister of State for Finance in charge of General Duties Hon Henry Musasizi, the Minister of State in charge of Trade Hon David Bahati, Members of Parliament from Kigezi Region and Local Council Leaders across the region.
The Holy Mass was led by the Archbishop of Mbarara The Most Rev Lambert Bainomugisha assisted by several Bishops and Priests.
