NEWS- In a bid to enhance and boost the level of sanitation in Rukungiri Municipality, the North Kigezi Diocesan Deputy Chancellor Counsel Isaac Atukunda has commissioned and launched several water sources after he injected in some money to bring the said sources to functionality.
Atukunda who is eyeing the Rukungiri Municipality National Resistance Movement Chairmanship and the area Parliamentary seat was forced to inject close to 7 million shillings to have 5 springs and a borehole renovated in the municipality. The renovated springs include one in Ruhega and Rwakatunduri in Eastern Division, Furuma and Katobo in Western Division as well as one in Kihindi and a borehole at Nyamayenje A cell in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
Representing Counsel Isaac, Hon Fred Mucunguzi the Eastern Division councilor to the District told this reporter that the activity was ignited by the community members that requested to have their sources renovated since they were nolonger serving their need. Mucunguzi tasked the beneficiary communities to form committees to safeguard the renovated sources so that they can serve them with clean and safe water for a long period of time.
He is optimistic that the water sources will help to improve the community’s sanitation as well as reducing on the time they have been spending lining up for water since the renovation has seen the sources register an increase in the volume of the water flow.
Hon. Kapesha Johnson, the southern Division councilor who was part of the team hailed Counsel Isaac Atukunda for thinking about People’s health, stressing that a healthy community has less spending hence more chances of engaging in developmental projects. Kapesha tasked the beneficiary communities to welcome Counsel Isaac Atukunda’s initiative, Safeguard it for its longevity in solving some of the problems they have been facing for a long period of time.
Tugeineyo Wilberforce, Nampa Rossette from Ruhega cell, Gumisiriza Suliaman aka Production from Rwakatundiri, Nankunda Ronah, Tuhirirwe Evas from Kihindi in Southern Division as well as Gabriel Katabazi, Tumwebaze Editor, Kebihbura Scolastica from Nyamayenje A cell all hailed Counsel Isaac Atukunda for thinking about them stressing that life had turned a burden to them especially in getting access to clean and safe water.
Byomuhangi Medard, the Nyamayenje ‘A’ cell chairperson in Ndorero ward, Southern division who subscribes to the Forum for Democratic Change FDC narrated that the borehole built in their area by counsel Isaac is first of its kind rallying the community to only support such people are development oriented.
