Among laying wreath at Oulanya's grave

GULU- The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Among has disclosed that nothing will stop Parliament from conducting her rotational regional sittings and everything has been put in place to ensure that the session for Northern Uganda in Gulu City kicks off tomorrow without fail.

Speaker Among made the remarks shortly after arriving in Gulu ahead of the Parliamentary sitting scheduled for tomorrow at Kaunda Grounds where the Members will converge to deliberate on the issues affecting the electorate in Northern Region.

Earlier today, Speaker Among laid a wreath on the grave of her predecessor the late Jacob Oulanyah’s grave in Omoro District as the first activity the Speaker was engaging in ahead of tomorrow’s official launch of the first regional Parliamentary sitting in Gulu City.

Speaker Among later, held a private meeting with the late Oulanya father, Mzee Nathan Okori who appealed to the Speaker to remind President Museveni on his commitment to complete the house that Oulanyah was building before his demise.

Rt Hon Among Magogo later had the honour of launching Omoro FM, a dream initiated by the late Jacob Oulanyah which she said was a dream which now become a reality and thank Hon Andrew Oulanyah, the son to late Jacob Oulanyah for keeping his father’s legacy alive.

Meanwhile Security Agencies in Gulu have arrested several people in connection with planned demonstrations against the regional parliamentary sittings that started in the city today.

Aswa West Regional Police spokesman David Ongom Mudong confirmed the arrests, but declined to disclose their details since the crackdown was still progressing, reports confirmed the detention of opposition National Unity Platform Party mobilizer Brian Mungu and NUP interim regional coordinator Sebastian Ogoni among others.
