Kigezi Region Police PRO ASP Elly Maate

NEWS- The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 40 years old man identified as Edison Kanyakole a resident of Katete Sub County who is alleged to have been knocked by a speeding car registration number UBJ 100J Hillux double cabin that belongs to Kedifise bank Kanungu branch.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident and said that it took place yesterday at Kabashaki Village along Kanungu –  Kihihi Road in Kirima Subcounty.

Maate explained that the deceased had left his home in Katete Sub-county and proceeded to Mitooma District to pay a visit to a friend called Sabiti and yesterday, he disappeared from Sabiti to an unknown destination but while drunk and walking in the middle of the road, was knocked by that speeding vehicle and sustained injuries and was rushed to Katate Health Center IV Kanungu where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Maate said that the Police were alerted by Mukwatangabo Habib Twaha an employee of Kidefise Bank, and the scene was visited and documented, and the vehicle was impounded for further investigations, while the driver is on the run and being hunted.

The Police later carried out a postmortem examination and the body was handed over to relatives for a decent burial and the case was registered under reference number TAR 17/15/09/2024 to help in further investigation as the Police hunt for the driver.
