Shocked residents at the mortuary

NEWS– Two suspects are in custody at Kasese Central Police Station in connection with a case of death by suspected poisoning of two juveniles.

The suspects including Abdul Kasita, a step farther to the deceased children and Jenifer Ithungu, a house maid were arrested following the death of Catherine Kabugho, 10 and Caroline Mbambu, 08 who were allegedly poisoned at their home in Kogere Cell, Rukooki Ward of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality.

The Rwenzori East Regional Community Liaisons Officer, SP Luka Mbusa who confirmed the incident to press stressed that the deceased children belong to Ezra Muhindo commonly known as Sumete, a resident of Saluti B in Kanyangeya Ward, Nyamwamba Division and Mary Murungi, a police officer currently attached to Masaka Police Station.

According to him, Murungi and Muhindo had separated and the mother went with her two children that she has been staying with at Kogere.

Mbusa who also doubles as the acting Regional Public Relations Officer, said after separation, Murungi began cohabiting with Kasita and the two have been living together as husband and wife.

It is reported that the suspects fed the victims with Rolex and Soda yesterday before they developed stomach complications and were rushed to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Kasese town by a neighbor who saw their condition worsening. 

The acting Regional Police Mouthpiece also told Media that after being pronounced dead, the bodies of the two young sisters were conveyed to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination before they were handed to their relatives for burial.

He used the same platform to warn the parents against domestic violence and called for good parenting in order to avoid related challenges.
