Police in Rukiga District are investigating a burglary at Bukinda Cooperative Village Financial Services in Muhanga Town Council, where thieves reportedly made away with an unspecified amount of money and two laptops.

According to the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime, the incident occurred last at the SACCO premises in Kagunga Cell, Rutare Ward when unknown people broke into the financial institution before stealing cash and two laptops belonging to the SACCO.

The Police have since appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify the suspects to report to the nearest Police station and asked Saccos all over Kigezi to step up security at their premises..

Tumushime, however assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that Police will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and ensure that those responsible are brought to book.

Meanwhile the Police in Greater Kigezi Region have directed school administrations to strengthen access controls and promptly report strangers on school premises, following the alleged kidnapping incidents registered within the Kigezi sub-region.

The development follows recent reports that circulated on various media platforms and social media handles regarding the alleged continued kidnapping of learners and children in the region.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, Nelson Tumushime, said that two kidnap incidents involving learners and children have been registered in the region.

According to Tumushime, on the morning of 30th September 2026, a kidnap case occurred in Kigongi Ward, Central Division, in Kabale Municipality, however, the victim was later recovered.

The police spokesperson added that there was another alleged kidnap of a 14-year-old in Bubaare Town Council, with the police tightening their enforcement, still tracing and containing the culprits.

The Police have however assured the public, school administrators, and learners that intelligence-led operations have been intensified, with patrols continuing in and around schools.
