Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) leaders have demanded immediate transparency and accountability regarding the distribution of presidential flood relief funds intended for city traders.

The demand was made today during a high-level meeting organized by KCCA with trade associations leaders from across Kampala yesterday, division councilors raised critical concerns regarding delayed government financial flood relief funds and structural imbalances within the authority’s leadership.

The Lord Woman Councilor for Kampala Central Division, Bahati Aisha opened her remarks by commending the resilience of Kampala’s business community.

She praised the business women and men who work tirelessly every day to sustain the city’s economy despite facing severe economic hardships.

Turning her focus to governmental accountability, Councillor Bahati strongly questioned the prolonged delay in disbursing the flood relief funds promised by the President to traders who suffered devastating losses during the October 2025 floods.

She rem8nded the audience that the President promised this financial relief to help traders recover and now they need to know why the responsible officials are taking this long to release the money.

“As leaders, we are closely monitoring every single step of this deployment because the traders deserve full transparency,” Councillor Bahati said.

In the same meeting, the Councilor for LC IV Kampala Central, Kalyango Shafik, addressed internal governance and administrative distribution within Kampala Capital City Authority.

Councilor Kalyango directly petitioned Lord Mayor Eng Balimwezo Nsubuga to prioritize institutional balance when assigning committee responsibilities and leadership roles among councilors.

Councilor Kalyango highlighted a widening representation gap between opposition and National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders within the authority’s administrative ranks.

He urged the Lord Mayor to implement strict balance and fair representation across political and demographic lines to ensure all leadership voices are equitably represented in Kampala’s governance.
