NEWS- The Police in Kanungu Have Arrested two Suspects for questioning on allegations of murdering Bernard Byamugisha a 49 year old peasant mukiga resident of Bushoro Cell, Nyamigoye Parish in Kanyantorogo Sub County of Kanungu District.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police mouthpiece identified the duo as Ivan Ampumuza , 20 and Tukamushaba Morine, 23 all peasant farmers and residents of the above address.
According to Maate, on 15th April 2024 at about 1:30pm, the deceased went to his Coffee Plantation to Pluck Coffee Beans and didn’t return home until 16th April 2024 at about 8am when the son to the deceased Ampumuza (Suspect) disguised himself by asking his neighbors, the whereabouts of his Father.
It is further said that upon receiving the information, the Community members conducted a search into the Coffee plantation and recovered the body of the deceased lying in a Coffee Plantation about 3 Kilometers From His Home.
Maate confided to the press that the deceased has been having a long standing family conflict with his Family [Children] who have occasionally made threats to his life.
The deceased was found lying on his back facing up with strangulation marks on his neck and the police was notified by Emmanuel Biryomumisho.
The officers visited the crime scene and documented it, recorded relevant statements and did postmortem at the crime scene before they handed over the body to relatives for descent burial.
The two suspects arrested and detained are the biological children to the deceased and will help the Police in investigations in a case registered at Kanungu CPS under reference number CRB.240/2024.
The Police in Kanungu district have arrested a Suspect and Hunting for Others Who Allegedly Assaulted a 21 year old casual worker Ampaire Simpson to death.
The deceased according to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesman was a resident Of Bugongo Cell, Nyakatunguru Ward, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District who died days after the assault.
The Police spokesman intimated to this reporter that on 15th April 2024 at around 2:00hrs at Bugongo cell Nyakatunguru Ward Kihihi Town Council, Keneth called the Sister of Simpson that his brother was lying on the road unconscious.
Upon reaching there, she found him lying on the floor in the house of Keneth from where it was carried to the house of the sister until on 17th April 2024 at 8:00Am when he passed on.
After his death, the body was taken from Kihihi to Kirima Sub County by his sister, but before his last breath, Simpson revealed those who assaulted him as Keneth, Igni and Brown.
Police was informed, scene visited and documented, statements from witnesses recorded and postmortem was done by Dr. Joel of Nyakatare HcIII and that’s when one suspect identified as was Arrested.
Maate stressed that the body had a bruise on the head and on the right arm adding that Police inquiries are already at hand to establish the likely intention of the killers.
