KAMPALA– In a bid to fortify community relations and amplify service excellence, Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) has orchestrated a training initiative on Community Engagement led by Mr. Frank Mayanja Baine, Senior Commissioner of Prisons (Deputy Director of Corporation and Corporate Affairs).

The training, convened at Marieflo Hotel in Masaka City, brought together Officers In Charge Prisons, Senior Officers, Medical and Social Workers spanning the Southern and Kooki administrative Regions of Uganda Prisons Service.

Guided by the Prisons Client Charter 2018/19 – 2022/23, the gathering emphasized the pivotal role of Customer Care in UPS operations, with a spotlight on strengthening community connections to bolster service delivery and uplift the institution’s public image.

Central to Mr. Baine’s deliberations was the recalibration of the complaints handling chain, proactively nurturing Public Relations initiatives, fostering trust within the community, enhancing government visibility and embedding community corrections.

Mr. Baine highlighted that engaging with the community acts as a guiding tool, preventing Prisons not to live as Islands in their locations. The goal is to foster community ownership, easing existing tensions and building closer connections between the community and Prisons.

This strategic initiative underscores UPS’s commitment not to merely exist as custodial entities but integral stakeholders vested in community welfare and societal harmony.

UPS’ pivotal role as change agents in propelling the socio-economic transformation of Uganda was emphasized.
