KAMPALA- The Uganda National Teachers Union UNATU, an umbrella that brings together teachers in the country has written to the public service over salary enhancement engagements.
In a letter dated 9th September 2024 signed by Filbert Baguma Bates the umbrella General Secretary, the union highlights of the non implementation of the collective Bargaining Agreement CBA that the government had with UNATU.
According to Baguma, the CBA saw the two parties agree to a phased salary enhancement plan for all primary teachers, Head teachers and their deputies who were not covered in the FY 2018/19.
In the same agreement under clause 2.8.3, the two parties also agreed to the subsequent pay enhancement in the financial years 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23 which Baguma says was also neglected to date.
Having failed to implement the undertakings despite the government’s commitment to its compliance in the agreed five (5) years period, UNATU threatens to resume their industrial action that was halted in July 2022.
“However if the government fails to honor the agreement, this is a notice of a resumption of industrial action “, part of the letter read.
