NEWS- Journalists and media practitioners have been encouraged to ensure accuracy and balanced reporting when securing their duties.
While talking to our reporter, the Rukungiri Municipality aspiring member of Parliament Counsel Isaac Atukunda highlighted the importance of accuracy and balanced reporting stressing that it promotes development of communities.
As the country heads to polls, Counsel Isaac called for observation of freedom rights mostly by security agencies saying that Media is the fourth arm of the government and therefore needs to be well preserved.
He noted that the media can easily influence the development or collapse of the country in accordance to how they are treated.
Counsel Isaac Atukunda urged journalists to counter politics of identity, sectarianism and being used by some candidates to tarnish their opponents’ names.
Counsel Isaac’s remarks came as Uganda joined other countries in the world to commemorate World Press Freedom Day.
The World Press Freedom Day is commemorated every 3rd day of May as declared by United Nations General Assembly and observed by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
This year’s World Press Freedom Day is celebrated under the theme “Reporting in the Brave New World”, focuses on the impact of Artificial intelligence on Press Freedom and the media.
