KAMPALA- Uganda is gradually becoming a perfect destination for International Conferences and Events which is the right step in the right direction.

Last week, the 11th Congress Teachers of French in Africa and the Indian Ocean was hosted at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Kampala.

The five day Conference run under theme “French as a driver for development in the digital era” is uniquely one of the few that is normally held in francophonie countries but this time it was here.

The highly interactive event had delegates from over 27 countries that swung in action to participate from; Rwanda, Burundi, Cameroon, Benin, Djibouti, Gabon, Togo, Belgium, Canada, Burkina faso, Cote D’ivore and many others.

In her Closing Remarks Dr. Agatha Tumwine said it was a great pleasure to   final day of the Congress.

“On behalf of Association of French Teachers (APFO) , we are very happy for honoring our invitation,  sparing your time and being able to come.  I thank the team we have worked with and all the partners that have made it possible for the week which was a big success because we have had meetings for the last two years” added Tumwine.

In appreciation for the formidable work done by the entire team, she also recognized and awarded exceptional personalities and entities that stood with them.

Papa Deo Sebulimaje ,the first APFO President in 1992 said that it was a great honor for him to be at the congress and encouraged them to enjoy Uganda and visit the country, before he hoped they make French a compulsory language.

Prof. Milburga Atcero, Dean Faculty of Hospitality and French lecturer called upon those who can study French to   aim higher for greater opportunities and encouraged President Agatha to complete her term as well pushing for more because the conference was successful.

The host, Professor Muhwezi Moses, Principal, MUBS first appreciated his teacher for French that enabled him to teach the little French he knows.

“I’m humbled to be here and you all look fresh as if you have just started the conference, I thank you coming to Uganda the Pearl of Africa.

As MUBS were privileged to host and thank you for honouring us since the start and I believe you have had great moments and we thank God for his works. I  can assure you I have improved my language and I can ask  for food and even sustain an argument.

We understand language and culture are important enablers of culture and  business”. Muhwezi Said.

He also highlighted that besides the French language they are teaching German, Chinese and Kiswahili so that they can communicate with all the people.

Additionally, the conference had various sessions such as networking, cultural night, knowledge  sharing and  experiences, new modes of teaching and many others  plus guided tours at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (Zoo), Musuem and Kabaka’s Palace.
