KAMPALA- The Uganda Police Force has said that the heavy deployments on Kampala streets will not go away soon.

Since last week, police and military have fortified and closed off roads to and near parliament as youths protested against corruption in the country. The state of affairs has caused inconveniences to some of the road users.

The Police Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, has said the heavy deployment will remain on the streets of Kampala, until when they will assess and deem the situation as safe.  “We’re not leaving the Kampala streets soon. We shall remain on standby until the intelligence redeems that the situation is not risky for anyone.” Kituuma.

He has also insisted that based on the intelligence information they have, the anti-corruption protests are being funded by wrong elements. “Yes we have the capacity to know and tell that some people have bad intentions in Uganda, so yes these protests are being funded.” Kituuma noted.

Over 100 youths were last week arrested during the two day protests whose organisers said they will continue until their demands are heeding. At least 15 of them have been released on court bail today.

The protestors demand for the resignation of the speaker of Parliament and the four back bench commissioner over alleged corruption.  Over the weekend the speaker of Parliament, Anita Among said the protestors were self-seekers, and she won’t resign.
