Dr. John Chryston Muyingo, the Minister of State for Higher Education has warned universities against the practice of awarding fake documents to the students.
Dr. Muyingo sounded the warning today afternoon while representing the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni as the Chief Guest at the first graduation ceremony of over 100 students at Rwenzori International University in Kasese town.
According to him, the warning is meant to protect students from being exploited by fraudulent institutions and to also ensure the integrity of higher education in Uganda.
He also warned the students against the practice of involving themselves in drug abuse, arguing that it negatives affects their educational career.
In his remarks, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nathaniel Mumbere Walemba rated the number of females who graduated at the first graduation ceremony at 53% while their male counterparts were rated at 47%.
According to him, the rating alone was an indication that the University was doing well in terms of education for both females and males.
The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Benson Kule Baritazale revealed that 43 years ago, the Omusinga (King) Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma asked his subjects to embrace education, an idea that the people welcomed positively.
He asked the graduates to be innovative and creative, coupled with making research so that they become job creators but not seekers.
Some of the graduates who talked to our reporter promised to be ambassadors of education in the Rwenzori region.
