The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has this morning joined the people of Kitgum in cleaning Kitgum Main Market as part of the National Cleaning Exercise held on the last Saturday of every month.
Archbishop Kaziimba was joined by the Bishop of the Diocese of Kitgum, Rt Rev Wilson Kitara; Hon. Beatrice Akello, Minister of State for Northern Uganda; Hon. Beatrice Atim Anywar, Minister of State for Environment; Hon. Dennis Onekalit Amere, Member of Parliament for Kitgum Municipality; Hon. Wellborn Odiya Ottober, Member of Parliament for Aruu North County; Mr Jimmy Segawa Ebil, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner; local leaders; and members of the Kitgum community.
The Archbishop called upon Ugandans to make cleanliness a daily responsibility by maintaining clean homes, communities and good personal hygiene, rather than waiting for designated national cleaning days.
He particularly emphasized the importance of instilling a culture of cleanliness in children from an early age, saying schools, churches and families should deliberately mentor children to understand that keeping themselves and their surroundings clean is a personal responsibility.
The Archbishop is in the Diocese of Kitgum for his farewell visit and will later today, bid farewell to Christians of the Diocese at All Saints’ Cathedral, Kitgum.
