KASESE- The internally displaced people who are encamped at Muhokya in Kasese District have expressed concern over a possible outbreak of the cholera epidemic following the poor sanitation and hygiene at the camp.

Muhokya Internally Displaced Persons camp currently hosts 179 households which translate into a total of 1,389 people sharing a paltry seven mobile toilets.

Ms. Elizabeth Biira one of the people in the camp says that they are facing significant challenges related to accessing improved latrine facilities since most of those that were provide in 2020 have since filled up.

Ms. Rehema Aryema, the Camp Chairperson says the poor sanitation coupled with poor shelter facilities and acute lack of food supplies exposes the internally displaced persons to a risk of so many other diseases.

She is appealing to government to expedite the process of resettling the displaced persons so that they embark on a process of individually properly taking care of their families.

Kasese District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Elias Byamungu has since directed the area health inspector to ensure that more mob let latrines are established at the camp to prevent the possible outbreak of the epidemic.
