NEWS– The Church of Uganda’s Directorate of Household and Community Transformation yesterday kicked off its three days annual retreat to reflect on key achievements and challenges and to plan for the year 2024.

While opening the retreat in Bulenga this morning, the Director of Household and Community Transformation Rev Andrew Agaba, commended Staff and partners for the teamwork and upholding accountability, transparency and integrity which have helped the Directorate to register numerous achievements.

The retreat is bringing together Directorate Staff from the Provincial Secretariat  which include climate justice, gender and social justice, monitoring and evaluation, program accountant and communications and heads of affiliate institutions which is Lweza Training and Conference Center and Bbira Vocational Training College.

Rev Agaba noted that achievements of the Directorate for 2023 include a successful learning visit of all Diocesan Household Community Transformation coordinators to the Diocese of Kinkiizi, signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Uganda National Oil Company on climate justice by planting one billion tress in Uganda, Africa Climate week cleaning activities in Nakulabye in Kampala, launching of the 16 days of gender activism with an awareness walk in Namuwongo in Kampala, and a successful 7th graduation ceremony at Bbira Vocational Training College among many others. 

Others include buying of vehicles and groundbreaking for construction of Archbishop Kaziimba block at Bbira Vocational Training College and Maraka accomodation facility at Lweza Training and Conference Center.

Rev Agaba also said that there was the launch of the disaster risk reduction programs in Kitgum Diocese, hosting the All Africa Council of Churches on World Refugee Day in Madi West Nile Diocese, advocacy for gender and economic justice in Kumi and West Buganda Dioceses, among many other achievements.

According to Rev Agaba, the Directorate is committed to continued lobbying and advocating for new partnerships and establishment of projects and programs to champion the Church of Uganda’s self-sustainability agenda.

Rev Agaba said that he was grateful to God for all achievements for last year and believe as team they shall do better this year despite some challenges which can always be handled technically which were a learning framework to help by the now Church of Uganda achieve its vision of being a fast growing, sustainable Christ-centered Church.
