NEWS- Kagadi grade one Magistrates court has remanded a 38 year-Old Driver attached to Kagadi District Local government over reckless driving which caused the death of 28 year-old Muhorro protestor.
Court Presided over by his worship Edward Kayuki on Tuesday 6, March, 2024 heard that Stephen Tibihikira 38 attached to Kagadi District Local government and a driver to the District Chairperson Ndibwami Yosia on February 26th while driving a double cabin pickup Reg. No. UG-6998M belonging to Kagadi Health Department allegedly knocked dead a Boda-Boda cyclist identified as Tuhaise Magezi a cyclist in Muhorro town council who had joined his colleagues to demonstrate over Dilapidated 31km-Muhorro-Ndaiga -Lake Albert road.
Prosecution led by Bushira Nakayike heard that the suspect recklessly knocked dead the deceased in Igurika along Muhorro-Ndaiga road and for fear of his life handed himself to Kagadi police station a day after the incident
The suspect pleaded not guilty prompting the Magistrate to remand him to Mambugu government prison until March 26, 2024
The suspect’s Lawyer council Adonia Tiberondwa said the Magistrates’ decision to remand the suspect was due to lack of enough time resulting in a backlog at court and asked relatives of the suspect to be calm as they pursue the case.
Meanwhile the same court remanded a 17year old boy to the Masindi children’s remand home over murder. The accused is identified as Ajuna Pascal resident of Kamurandu Lc1, Ihuura Parish Nyabutanzi Sub- county Kagadi district.
Court heard that on 28th Feb, 2024 while in Kamuraundu village, Ajuna Maliciously killed one Brenda Tusingwire of the same area.
In the dock, the accused was not allowed to take any plea because the court lacks jurisdiction to such capital offences which prompted the magistrate to further remand him to Masindi children’s remand home until 30th April, when he will appear in court for further mention of his case.
