NTUNGAMO- Ugandans have been commended for rejuvenating and embracing cooperatives that had collapsed due to poor leadership in the 1980’s.
According to the former Human Resource manager at Uganda National Bureau of statistics (UBOS) Edgar Mbahamiza, Banyankore Kweterana in the 1960s helped many families educate their children who are serving the country in different portfolios.
He made remarks on Tuesday during the 23rd annual general meeting of Itojo Sub county Sacco held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Itojo parish Ruhaama county Ntungamo district. Mbahamiza thanked the leaders and members of Itojo Sub county Sacco for bringing sanity in the Sacco through advocating for accountability and transparency.
The district commercial officer Aryanyijuka Ezrah requested the staff and delegates to intensify mobilization of new members to even expand the catchment area. Aryanyijuka urged managers to make annual returns to the relevant offices as they comply with the law.
The supervisor of SACCOs in Western Uganda Benon Musinguzi warned guarantors to always scrutinize loan forms, terms and principal borrower’s financial status before signing for them.
Musinguzi revealed that it’s the responsibility of the guarantor to compel the principal borrower to adhere to the loan agreement. He noted that the guarantors will repay the borrower’s loan if the borrower does not repay.
The chairperson Itojo sub county Sacco Ltd Mujuni Naboth Kwesigaabo asked delegates to cooperate and be transparent in owning the Sacco challenges. Mujuni said that the Itojo sub county Sacco membership increased down from 2714 to 3113 members and promised to continue growing year after year.
He pledged to conduct education, mobilization, sensitization meetings to all targeted areas and equip Rwemiriro outreach branch office. Chairman Ntungamo district Saccos Union Ndibarema wa Bitwabaabo condemned loan defaulters saying they are sabotaging the development of the Saccos in the district.

At least 16 members were awarded gifts for good performance including Aidah Nturanabo who has many shares.
