NEWS- The Renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr James Musinguzi Garuga has pledged to support the Diocese of Karamoja in achieving socio-economic transformation through mindset change, improved education and agricultural development.

Dr. Musinguzi Garuga made this commitment today February 6th 2025 during a meeting with Bishop of Karamoja Diocese, Rt Rev Michael Chorey and his wife, Rev Canon Jane Chorey and the Director of Household and Community Transformation in the Church of Uganda Re Andrew Agaba at a function heldd at Kampala Serena Hotel in Kampala.

“For Karamoja to develop, we must harness local synergies and resources to encourage parents to take their children to school and shift the community’s mindset away from dependency. Karamoja’s potential is incredible,” Dr. Musinguzi Garuga said.

Since 2023, Dr. Musinguzi Garuga has sponsored two students annually for vocational training at Bbira Vocational Training College and this year; he pledged to expand his support by sponsoring an additional five students from Karamoja Diocese for secondary education.

Bishop Chorey emphasized that building partnerships is a key strategy in transforming Karamoja Diocese into a self-sustaining Diocese.

“One of my core priorities is forging strategic partnerships. We need support to drive transformation in our Diocese. I appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture to provide us with tractors to enable mechanized farming,” Bishop Chorey said.

He also said, the Diocese plans to invest in telecommunications by establishing a radio station to advance media ministry and promote mindset change and additionally, he plans to upgrade the Diocesan guesthouse into a state-of-the-art hotel facility to generate revenue for evangelism efforts.

Bishop Chorey further called on well-wishers to support clergy training, education scholarships for needy children, income-generating projects, and mission work within the Diocese.

While sleaking at the same event, the Director of Household and Community Transformation in the Church of Uganda, Rev Andrew Agaba reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to Karamoja Diocese’s sustainability.

“We recently concluded our Directorate’s retreat, where we dedicated a week to strategizing on how to transform Karamoja Diocese. As a result, we are launching the Karamoja Diocese Integrated Development Program, which will significantly enhance the Diocese’s growth,” Rev. Agaba said.

According to the Church of Uganda Communications Officer Sadiiki Adams Mugume, Karamoja Diocese covers Moroto, Napak, Nabilatuk, Amudat, and Nakapiripirit Districts, as well as Moroto City, with its headquarters in Moroto District.
