RUKUNGIRI– Five priests including two archdeacons have been retired from active Church Service after clicking the mandatory age on sunday 7th January 2024.

The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe announced this during the ordination service of four deacons who completed their course of study.

“There is no way we can recruit more priests when we don’t retire others. These will fill the gaps of those going to retire now due to old age,” Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe  said.

He praised those retiring from service for serving diligently up to the time of retiring before Christians force them to retire.

“I compare this with a war. Those who won the war have a reason to celebrate more than those going for a war,” he said.

The Bishop urged newly ordained priests to ask for Gods’ guidance to lead them to retirement as those who have completed their service as active priests.

He urged the ordained priests to tighten their belts, do the work of God and if they are not yet saved to better leave the profession before they’re ordained.

Those who retired after attaining 65 years of age include Rev. Geoffrey Mutabazi the archdeacon Rubirizi archdeaconary in Nyarushanje and Rev. Canon Nathan Tigakanya the archdeacon Nyakisoroza church of uganda in Nyakishenyi.

Others are Rev. Mauda Bazara, Rev. Charles Turyamureba of Bucence Parih, Rev. Adonia Kibangiri who has been serving as head of Fathers union in the diocese and Rev. Joshua Bwebare from Kisiizi hospital Chaplaincy.

The newly ordained priests are Chris Manigaruhanga, Allen Orishaba, David Orikwanga and Emmanuel Taremwa.
