NEWS- The Rwenzori East Regional Police is investigating circumstances under which ten people mysteriously died in the various parts of Kasese District during the festive season.

Rwenzori East Regional Police acting spokesperson SP Luka Mbusa told our reporter that preliminary investigations indicate that the deaths were caused by a range of factors including suicide, mob-justice, domestic violence and excessive alcohol consumption.

Mbusa identified the deceased persons as Zepha Lezphan Masereka 40, a resident of Kirongo, Katooke parish of Bugoye sub-county, Venesio Sunday Masereka 35, a resident of Ndugutu East in Muhambo Parish also of Bugoye sub-county, Michael Maate, a resident of Sebwe Village in Karusandara sub-county, Edson Masereka 32, a resident of Boma Cell in Central ward of Kitswamba Town Council and Mulekya Mbale 20, a resident of Nyabugando II Cell, Nyabugando Ward of Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council and the two including Paddy Mubunga who committed suicide in Munkunyu sub-county but is a resident of Nyakiyumbu sub-county and Emmanuel Kisara who committed suicide in Muhokya town council who is also a resident of Mahango sub-county.

According to SP Mbusa, 20-year-old Mbale’s body was found dangling lifeless on a coffee plant where he was suspected to have committed suicide on Sunday evening, December 24th 2023, while Maate from Karusandara was a victim of mob-justice after an angry mob pounced on him on Christmas day.

He however calls upon all the people all over the district to consult their local leaders on matters that arise in their families for help instead of reaching hard decisions like committing suicide which he says is an evil in the daily life. 

Bigemere Abudlatifu the chairperson local council I Muhokya central confirmed the incident stressing that the late and his wife had just resided in the area and they were still assessing their ways of living in their family.

He said the cause of death of the 40-45 aged man is attributed to the domestic violence in their family following the too much celebrations in the festive season which he says led to committing suicide of the late Kisara.
