RUKUNGIRI- In a heartwarming display of community support, the Rukungiri Municipality hopeful Member of Parliament (MP) Gen. Henry Tumukunde has continued his effort of donating food supplies to families affected by the recent hailstorm that devastated parts of Rukungiri Municipality.
The hailstorm, which occurred in February, caused significant damage to homes and property, leaving many residents in urgent need of assistance. In response, MP Hon. Tumukunde organized a food drive (maize flour) that he has been delivering to the affected villages to support the affected families.
The final support under this arrangement reached affected families in Kibale, Mutara, and Kafunda cells in Karangaro Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality on Tuesday, March 18th 2025 with each household receiving five kilograms of maize flour to help them cope with food shortages.
On behalf of Gen. Tumukunde, the activity coordinator Gracious Rusheesha expressed condolences to the affected families and urged them to replant their crops and ensure storing the produce to prevent future food shortages.
Rusheesha dismissed social media rumors that the relief was from the government, clarifying that Gen. Tumukunde personally intervened after learning about the residents’ plight.

The intending legislator’s initiative not only provided immediate relief but also fostered a sense of hope and resilience among the community.
Beneficiary residents including Serina Kakonya, Speech Musimenta, and Denis Twijukye expressed their gratitude for the support, highlighting the importance of community solidarity in the face of adversity.
As recovery efforts continue, residents emphasized the need for ongoing support and resources for hailstorm victims.
