Motorcycle under the bus in Rukungiri

NEWS- One person was on Wednesday evening confirmed dead in a devastating accident in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri district along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road.

The accident according to eyewitnesses occurred at around 7pm and involved a collision between a boda boda rider with a bus owned by HighWay Coaches registration number UBE 3790Q.

The bus that was said to have been coming from Kampala headed to Kanungu district ended up sweeping the victim in his 20s, killing him instantly.

The individual who passed away was known only as Peter, hailing from Nyakishenyi sub-county and has been working as a casual laborer in Katojo Buyanja town council.

The deceased had reportedly borrowed a motor vehicle with registration number UFZ 247X for a joyride when the accident occurred.

Eyewitnesses added that boda boda riders at the scene blamed the deceased, asserting that he was an inexperienced learner and unfit to operate a motorcycle on the road.

Following the collision, the bus driver abandoned the vehicle at the crime scene, and all passengers hastily fled. By press time, law enforcement officers from both Buyanja and Rukungiri Police stations were present to document the incident, and preparations were underway to retrieve the body for a postmortem examination.

The vehicles involved in the accident, the bus, and the borrowed motorcycle, were towed to Buyanja Police station pending IOV inspection.
