NEWS- Boda Boda Cyclists in Kabale District have hailed the outgoing District Police Commander Superintendent of Police- SP Abel Ruganza for swiftly responding to their calls during crime management.

In the latest Police transfers, SP Ruganza has been switched with Lira City DPC Joseph Bakaleke who is now the Kabale DPC. Ruganza handed over office to Bakaleke in a ceremony that was attended by the Kigezi region and Kabale District top Police Officials. Ruganza said he would move to Lira City and assume his duties immediately after the handover ceremony.

During the handover ceremony at the Kabale Central Police Station, a section of Boda Boda cyclists in Kabale town waited outside to say their good-byes to Ruganza and they rode with in a heroic motorcycle procession from the C.P.S to his residence in Kigongi Cell at the Police Barracks.

Kabale Boda Boda Association General Secretary Alex Niwagaba said they appreciated the swift response of the DPC whenever they had crime incidences affecting the Boda Boda Industry.

“He was unique because he never gave us any of the common Police excuses such as lack of fuel, and together with him we have recovered a number of stolen motorcycles,” Niwagaba said.

The Association Chairperson Allan Bwasheesha echoed words of the secretary and argued that it was too early for the transfer of Ruganza who had only started stabilizing Kabale District from a long time challenge of motorcycle theft and robberies. Bwasheesha however, said they were committed to cooperate with the New DPC.

In his address to the media, SP Ruganza said that his worst challenge in his two and a half years in Kabale was the spate of murders and aggravated robberies that rocked Kabale town between May and June 2023. He said that all the culprits behind the crimes had been apprehended, thanks to the cooperation from the community, especially the Ghetto leaders of Kabale Town, and the Boda Boda Cyclists.

Meanwhile, SP Bakaleke pledged to begin from where his predecessor had stopped. Bakaleke revealed that it was his first time to work from Kabale, but he was optimistic that the residents would accord him with maximum cooperation the same way they did for Ruganza.
