KAMPALA– A 34 year old woman Fatuma Nansubuga has been jailed in Luzira prison for allegedly demanding the resignation of the speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among.

Nansubuga a resident of Kalerwe was arrested on July 2nd at KCCA Central division while carrying a placard reading “Demanding for resignation of speaker of parliament …Uganda must be free from corruption”.

Prosecution at Buganda Road Court says in the exercise of her common right, Nansubuga became a nuisance and inconvenienced other people who were going by their duties.

She has however pleaded not guilty before Grade One magistrate Caroline Kyoshabire but she was remanded until 9th/ July when she will apply for bail.

However, Magistrate Kyoshabire advised Nansubuga’s lawyer to apply for bail at the next sitting. Consequently, Nansubuga who had been at Kampala Central Police station for two nights was sent to Luzira Prison until July 9th, 2024.

Nansubuga is not the only person who has appeared at Buganda Road Court in the recent past over cases arising from the alleged condemnation of corruption reportedly perpetuated by Speaker Among.

On Wednesday, the former Rubaga Division RCC Herbert Anderson Burora was sent to Luzira Prison by the same court on charges of hate speech and spreading malicious information.

Burora’s trouble came shortly after he was suspended from office on allegations of having continued to issue or utter statements to the social media without express authority from his line supervisors.
