On Saturday, 20th September 2025, Christians of St. Andrew’s Kancerere Church of Uganda in the Diocese of Kinkiizi, led by their parish priest Rev. Daniel Buregyeya, visited the farm of Mr. Kwesiga Boaz Rutera in Bugangari Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, for an agricultural learning and benchmarking tour.
They were joined by Maama Florence Asiimwe, wife of Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of North Kigezi, Rev. Canon Eric Baingana Mugyenzi, the Diocesan Secretary, together with other Clergy from the Diocese as well as Mr. Sadiiki Adams, the Communications Officer of the Church of Uganda.
According to Rev. Buregyeya, the purpose of this visit was to learn from best practices in agriculture, especially coffee growing, so that Christians are empowered to fight against poverty.
“We have planted coffee, built schools, and now we are planning to build a hospital after our Primary School is complete. All these efforts go hand in hand with our strong focus on preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ for holistic community transformation. We want to fight poverty in our community.” Rev. Daniel Buregyeya said.
Kancerere Church of Uganda has already set up six acres of coffee, a secondary school (Kihembe Community Secondary School), and is currently constructing a primary school as part of its wider commitment to self-sustainability and transforming community livelihoods.
In her remarks, Maama Florence Asiimwe commended the leadership of Kancerere Church for looking beyond their Diocese to learn from others and encouraged the Christians to put into practice the lessons acquired.
