NEWS- Kisoro Municipality is among the municipalities set to benefit from the proposed Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) program.

This was confirmed by the Kisoro municipality Mayor Richard Ndyana on Wednesday 1st November 2023 while addressing Journalists at his office at the Municipal Headquarters.

The Mayor said that officials from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD) have been conducting an assessment to different Municipalities looking at the preparedness, readiness and the portability to receive the project meant to see all Roads in the Municipality tarmacked.

While presenting the USMID performance update to journalists at the Ministry headquarters in August this year, the lands minister Judith Nabakooba, said the government is intending to roll out the extension of this program between 2024 and 2029, with an aim of ensuring that more municipalities are developed

Mayor Ndyana further declared his dream ambition of contesting for Kisoro District LC V Chairmanship pursuing an enhancement of the developmental projects in the entire district.

He confirmed that he has had engagements from various people wishing him to contest and welcoming his dream assuring the public that he will kick off the campaigns as soon as possible, after completing all the assignments as the mayor Kisoro municipality.

Among the assignments he looks forward to improving are not limited to welfare of the youths, children, women, elderly and disabilities which will end before his term of office. 

Recently, Hon. Alex Niyonsaba Seruganda, the Bufumbira South county legislator, pointed out that Kisoro district had received over Ugx. 2.38 billion to rehabilitate roads in the district and Municipality.

Hon. Niyonsaba who was chairing a district roads committee on behalf of its chairperson Hon. Nsababuturo James narrated that the district received Ugx. 1.2 billion and the Municipality Ugx. 1.18 for the rehabilitation of roads in sorry state due to increased rainfall.

The road works according to Niyonsaba are set to commence in this month, November, 2023 in areas without clay materials and later to communities after realizing a reduction in the rains.

The legislator added that the Municipality has inadequate machines to work on all roads and since the district will be working on theirs, the responsible offices have been advised to make requests for machines from the region to enable them to utilize the funds in time.

The meeting was attended by area MPs Kwizera Paul Bucyana of Kisoro Municipality, Kamara John Nizeyimana North, Alex Seruganda south, Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi Woman MP among others.
