NEWS- Dr Kakuru Glet Bitariho an Epidemiologist in the Ministry of health has decried the low performance and uptake of Yellow Fever vaccines among the people in Ntungamo district.

Dr. Kakuru noted that the government is targeting to vaccinate six hundred thirty thousand people (63,000) per day but unfortunately only eight ninety three thousand sixty six people (89,366) making it 17.8% have been vaccinated in three days.

He said the low uptake worries health officials since they may not be able to reach the targeted 500,000 people in Ntungamo district. Dr Kakuru rallied the local leader to intensify the mobilization campaign in communities of their jurisdiction. He made remarks today during the 2nd district stakeholders Yellow Fever meeting in the district council Hall.

The acting DHO Nahabwe Rowland asked political and religious leaders to cascade the information to the grass root so that Ntungamo District can hit the target of 100%.

The deputy RDC Ntungamo Atuhaire Rosemary implored the leaders to cooperate and flow the right information to the communities.

She asked them to tell people that getting vaccinated is for good health and helps you to protect them and their families.

The secretary for health and social services Kakinoni Bibiana hailed the leaders and tasked them to continue mobilizing for the Yellow Fever campaign that is ending on 8th April 2024.

The education officer Dinnah Nabaasa advised school teachers to help the health teams in order to properly record the names of the pupils and students in schools.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Dr. Sarah Achen from UNICEF has assured the VHTs who have not yet received their smartphones to wait until 2nd week of May this year after conducting training on its usage.
