Minister Betty Amongi share a moment with the Director-General

The Minister of Gender Labour and Social Development Hon Betty Amongi Ongom has delivered a powerful statement on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference at the Palais des Nations in Geneva Switzerland.

Minister Amongi address highlighted the pressing need for a collaborative approach to address labour rights, job creation and social justice around the world.

In her speech, Hon Amongi brought attention to the dire conditions faced by migrant workers, calling for cooperation among nations to ensure the dignity and rights of all individuals in the workforce. 

She emphasized that economic prosperity must not come at the expense of human life and dignity, particularly in the context of forced labor.

“Our commitment to social justice is unwavering and we are dedicated to ensuring that every worker has access to decent work conditions and a fair wage. The rights of every individual must be respected, regardless of where they come from.” Hon Amongi said.

Hon Amongi welcomed the engagement with the Global Coalition for Social Justice, which provides a platform for cooperation, leveraging a century of International Lanour Organisation experience to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

To mark this significant moment, she called upon International Labour Organisation constituents to come together in support of a comprehensive agenda that puts jobs, rights and growth at the forefront of global development.

She noted that the pathway to equality and justice requires solidarity, and it is time for all to come together to create a better future for workers everywhere across the Globe.

The 2025 Session of the Conference has attracted government, employer and worker delegates from 187 International Labour Organisations Member States to address important world of work matters such as possible new international standards on the protection of workers against biological hazards in the working environment, decent work in the platform economy and innovative approaches to promoting transitions from the informal to the formal economy.
