NUP President Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi

KAMPALA- The President of National Unity Platform-NUP Roberbert-Kyagulanyi Ssentamu- alias Bobi-wine has responded to Police inquiries about activities at Kamwokya School of leadership.  He has stated that the school teaches its members ways of ousting President Museveni’s regime.

This response comes after the Wednesday summons for NUP to come at the Police headquarters Naguru to clarify on the ongoing activities of the NUP schools of leadership operating in Kamwokya, the formerly known NUP offices.

In the letter Police said that it is interested in knowing the status of the school content taught and facilitators.

“It has come to the knowledge of the Uganda Police Force that the National Unity Platform has operated a Leadership School. It is in the best interest of the Police to ascertain the status of the school, content taught and facilitators.” The police letter dated 28th June 2024 from the office the Police Human Resource indicates.

Addressing Journalists at NUP’s offices at Makerere Kavuule Kyagulanyi said Police have ulterior motives to shut down the school. “We are aware of the intentions of the Police, but it is none of their business to intervene in the matters of a political party.” Kyagulanyi.

However, Kyagulanyi said despite the fact that NUP’s General Secretary will go and meet police at any time, police should know that all that is being taught is about plans to remove Museveni from Power.

But let me explain here that our school teaches nothing much apart from sharpening our leaders on ways and processes of removing president Museveni and his government and freeing ourselves. That is, nothing else.” Kyagulanyi said.

Adding that after taking power they will continue using the same school to teach values and principles of leadership which at the moment is lacking in Ugandan leaders.

“At our school, we do not and have not purported to offer accredited programs leading to awards of academic qualifications. Those who attend the training will only get certificates of attendance. Our training focuses on the values, principles and objectives of being a good leader which is lacking among leaders of today.” Kyagulanyi said.

Additionally, Kyagulanyi has also fired back at some NUP’s disgruntled members’ statements such as Mpuuga, that the party is made of drug addicts stating that they shouldn’t have joined a party of such calibre in the first place.

“Tell those interested in leadership positions to stop going to bars, getting drunk and smoking marijuana,” Mpuuga said at a recent gathering in Mityana Municipality.

“If you want to be a leader, you must be sober 24 hours a day. The person we want to push away doesn’t go to bars, he’s always sober. And he doesn’t even drink wine. Mpuuga added”.

Mpuuga, a former Leader of the Opposition under the NUP banner, fell out with the party principal Kyagulanyi in March following revelations that the Nyendo Mukungwe legislator negotiated and received Shs500 million as service award.

NUP condemned the cash token while Mpuuga insisted it was justified gratuity, leading to his suspension from the main Opposition party leadership.
